Rear View Mirror Hanging Things LawGreat Green Idea from Madison, CT but I noticed a snag, sorta.
Somewhat-Green Remedy "Remember The Bag Tags"
Paper or Plastic? No Thanks
I think this is a great idea, to a certain degree. Well, one thing, I think people need to think a lot more and stop with their massive, consumerist habits. Many people just do not seem to care what the future may bring to our children in regards to their actions and the effects they have on the planet. How often have you gone to the grocery store, purchased just a couple of items and the cashier or bagger simply places them in a plastic bag? Happened to me just last night; I was at Adams Grocery store, in Deep River, CT. Bought a quart of milk and a small box of cereal. Expensive at $5.98 for the two items, I hadn't been fully paying attention and the cashier placed my items into a plastic bag. I politely said, thanks but I don't need the bag and so I placed it back onto the wire dispenser. Adams actually makes me proud, to a certain degree because in the past I've gotten 5 cents back per bag I do not use, which apparently is part of their policy. Unfortunately, I didn't get any change back last night, but still, makes me think about business these days in the United States. Companies could care-less about the effects their products have on the world ahead. They're more interested in selling the cheapest-stuff-possible, as much of it they can, and the giving away packaging such as these plastic bags. Those bags cost little to produce, yet they'll remain in landfills, when properly 'recycled', for a long time.
I do not think Cate realizes this and apparently the person writing the article is unaware of this. The snag I noticed is the law in Connecticut that prohibits anything hanging from a rear-view mirror. Click the following link to read about this law. C.G.S. 14-99f(c) It seems, in some peoples' opinions, this is less of a CT "law" and more of a tool law enforcement can use to pull people over. Personally, my issue is really the article mentioning these tags are designed to be hung from rear-view mirrors. I doubt the Cate's 13 year-old daughter or 10 year-old son are aware of this law and Cate, herself, is probably not aware. I'm not sure many people in Connecticut are actually aware of this law. Is it one of those obscure laws the state passes just to allow them more control over the citizens? Perhaps it is a law passed so the state can make more money, as it seems many are. Personally, I almost think speed limits went to 65 mph because people drive faster, using more gas, therefore they need to buy more gas and this makes the state more money. Do you think they really care people are getting to work faster? People got to work just fine before, on time.
Same crap with cell-phones. People could get in touch with me before, why now do I need to conform to the trends and spend all that money on a cell phone? Kids in high-school have cell phones now. In fact, I heard of a town in California where the school administration banned cell phones and parents are freaking out over the matter. It turns out the kids were cheating by sending test answers. The kids are at school, they should be safe, their parents don't need to be able to call them all day long, anytime, anyday. These companies just want to sell cheap electronic garbage to everyone possibly and they love the trendiness, they're making plenty of money and they don't even need to fix their service because people still keep buying the things even though they only have service 80 percent of the time. What is this world coming to? Capitalism, consumerism, taking hold of the human spirit and taking control of everyone's lives. People are more concerned with how they appear than what good they actually do.
